As part of training for my first triathlon, I started swimming with a Master’s swim group. It’d been YEARS since I’d been in a pool, but as a kid I was a pretty good swimmer. Or so I thought. In one of my early training sessions, I was swimming down the lane toward the coach, an 80+ year-old Hall of Fame Triathlete and pioneer for women in the sport. I could tell she was watching me as I approached, which of course makes one a little nervous. I stopped at the end of the lane, prepared for her feedback: “You swim like a barge! Don’t be a barge. Swim like a fish. Think fish in a tunnel!” as she motioned with her hand. Well, this absolutely tickled me and I COULD NOT stop laughing. So this fish ornament is dedicated to my awesome (and quite funny) coach, Susan Bradley-Cox.
Each wool applique goldfish ornament is drawn out, carefully cut, and handstitched by yours truly. The round portion of the ornament measures approximately 2.75″ in diameter. Of course because of the handmade nature of this item, minor variations may exist from one ornament to another.
